Amir Hossein Yazdanbod

Amir Hossein Yazdanbod (born 1977, Tehran) is an Iranian writer, literary critic, and translator. To date, he has published two books: the short story collection Portrait of an Unfinished Man (Cheshmeh, 2008) and the novel Stutter (Ofogh Publishing, 2013). In addition, dozens of his short stories, essays, literary reviews, and translations have appeared in literary journals and magazines in Iran and Canada.

Yazdanbod has received several literary awards, including the Houshang Golshiri Literary Award, the Golden Pen Award, the Tehran Story Award, and the First Book of the Year Award. After immigrating to Canada, he became a member of PEN Canada and the Writers in Exile (WiE) program. He has also published a number of essays and short stories in English in respected publications, including Write, the quarterly magazine of The Writers’ Union of Canada.

Yazdanbod is an honorary member of the Association of Families of Flight PS752. Over the course of two years, he organized memoir-writing workshops for families of the victims of the Flight PS752 tragedy, which resulted in the publication of two volumes of mothers’ memoirs titled It Should Never Have Been Written and It Should Never Have Been Written II, the first co-edited with Hamed Esmaeilion. He has also served as a judge for three editions of the Friday Story Prize (Toronto) and is an honorary editorial advisor to Asemana Books’ Persian Fiction Program.
