This pioneering novel by San’atizadeh, first published in 1321 SH (1942 CE), coinciding with the Allied occupation of Iran, is considered one of the foundational works of Persian science fiction and among the earliest feminist anti-war narratives in modern Iranian literature. Set against the backdrop of global wars and upheavals, the novel boldly portrays the rise of an idealistic, scientifically minded, and visionary woman to world leadership. By engaging with themes of gender, power, progress, and the dangers of technology, San’atizadeh transcended the literary and political conventions of his time, creating a work that was, in many respects, far ahead of its era.
Long neglected and largely forgotten, this novel has been revived in the present critical edition.
